ELDA TALUTA / Otherside Picnic (裏世界ピクニック)
« on: October 22, 2021, 04:07:57 AM »
This post will be the anime. Discussion on the light novels, the manga, and the novel that inspired it all, Roadside Picnic by Arkady and Boris Strugatsky, can follow afterwards.

For now, the anime was good :) Just watched all 12 episodes. It was a pleasant experience. After watching Godzilla Singular Point, this was just what I needed.

Spoiler: show
Episode 8 has lots of cats ;D

Episode 01 - [Terzetto]
Just watched Episode 1 and I got mixed feelings. I like the premise, it's got me intrigued to watch Episode 2. The art style by both studios Bones and Orange looked good for both human and kaiju characters. I'm starting to grow fond of Mei Kamino. But there's a lot of expository, especially at the beginning. I had to watch both the sub and dub just to get a full comprehension. I'm fine with technobabble as long as it's related to the story, but the beginning dialogue just seemed unfocused.
Spoiler: show
I mean why would anyone talk about Brazilian food when they hear a paranormality in the form of an Indian folk song?

But still, I plan on watching the rest.

You have come a long way, Hajime Isayama. A story of this caliber was no easy feat to pen all by yourself. You should be proud of what you have created.

MADLAX / The Pink Moon and Madlax Episode 7
« on: April 08, 2020, 01:38:22 PM »
For those who don't know, the Full Moon in April is the Pink Moon, from the pink flowers – phlox – that bloom in the early spring. Other names for this Full Moon include Sprouting Grass Moon, Fish Moon, Hare Moon, and the Old English/Anglo-Saxon name is Egg Moon. Hearing about that got me thinking about the pink/purple moon that was shown in Madlax Episode 7 above Friday's hideout, and a few other things:
  • Purple is the combination of red and blue, so having that moon there may have been a design choice as the red and blue moons would appear converging later on.
  • From Episode 4, Anne's computer, the events of the series were taking place in the summer, July 2011 to be precise. So the pink moon had already happened, just not the one we saw in Episode 7.
Let me know what you think.

ELDA TALUTA / Just Watched the First Two Episodes of The Mandalorian

So far, it's a really interesting series. To describe it in Bee-Train terms, imagine a Star Wars show with a premise of Both El Cazador De La Bruja and Avenger.

So this guy reviewed .Hack SIGN in the wake of isekai anime gaining popularity. Alex, this is more of your area, do you think he gave a well thought-out review?
10:18 was hilarious.

ELDA TALUTA / The Curse of Evangelion?
« on: May 29, 2019, 12:27:19 PM »
There's a video by esfelectra where he proposes that Hideaki Anno intended Neon Genesis Evangelion to be about why hedonistic escapism is not healthy and that accepting reality is how people can find peace and fulfillment, but the audience that grew up in the 90s didn't catch that memo. He went on to mention that the Rebuilds were a commentary on the state of the audience and the Japanese animation industry as a whole.

To that extent, I have to agree. It's no wonder Hayao Miyazaki once said that "anime is full by otaku." But that's subjective, folks. You can make of this what you will. Anyone care to comment?

Avenger / NASA Maps of Mars

Check out these maps of Mars by NASA

Looking at them got me thinking about where the domed cities may have been.

Spoiler: show
Since Layla's quest for vengeance correlated with the fountains of the deep breaking, would that northern part of Mars become an ocean?
