Noir / Re: Too Much Noir

You know you haven't been watching enough Noir after having watched too much Noir when you have an almost-lucid, rambling dream in a live-action Noir-verse...

...though it wasn't like the Starz live-action so much (though a lot of that seeped in), and none of our characters were actually there but it all involved tracking them and the Soldats (who were actually Soviet spies for some reason) so there were photos and such. And I had to sneak in to Chloe's office to try to find out what she was up to...  Very tense!   ??? :o ???

Did you know Chloe had just a normal, albeit tidy, office tucked away in the back of a shopping mall I used to go to a lot as a child, and that she used manilla folders to organize all of her targets and communications with Altena just like a normal office worker?  I was rather gobsmacked by that revelation at the time!    :o

Starz, call me! I have new script ideas for you to reboot the project with!     ;D

Thanks all!  Grinding along through another year, building up XP until I unlock the Early Retirement achievement.

Spoiler: show

May this be the year when all the forum's issues are finally resolved! :-X

Sadly, it may take someone taking over hosting and ownership for that to ever happen.  I've been a bit short on energy reserves of late. :/

..Or "Cafe de Mai"...   ;D

(their instagram has a lot of doggie pics: )

The top one is a eye-bender.  "Lior (with an accent on the r?) Due Frurin"... the "F" is really mangled, ans is the "rin", so those are up for debate.  Google was no help there.  The "Due" could be "Que" but probably not.

Just as there's the notion of "Engrish", I'm guessing that one is "Flench".

All Series / Re: BT from Japanese anime fans's perspective

Bee Train Fan helps Japanese fan through Paris - I think this Japanese fan went through our site and found the Paris analysis informative.

Ah, that's our pal Makoto (member Dagger, I believe), who spearheaded the International Project that Marta linked to.  Haven't messaged him in a long time...

If you receive an email from "admin[some numbers]" -- heck, any email that isn't the Soldats, then delete it immediately.  Do not open the attachment.

The one I got had the subject "Scanned Image" with a .docm file attached.

So far I think it's just trolling accounts, but if there's been a hack and the mailing list is getting exploited, please be careful.

You see that Jeremy Clarkson's new Top Gear replacement show is called The Grand Tour and the first thing you think of is "hey I think I've watched too much Noir because I can't read that without calling it that other thing..."  :)

Announcements & Introductions / New 2.0.x Forum upgrade
« on: February 19, 2016, 01:21:04 PM »
So that was a little easier than it used to be....

I'm in the process of trying to restore a few of the basic modifications (or any upgraded equiv.).  I hope to also get the AJAX Chat connected again.

The Gallery has been upgraded and seems to be working fine, but doesn't seem to be able to be "bridged" anymore. Test your login over there and let me know if something's amiss.

The Wiki is hosed at the moment.  The data is still there, at least, but it's upgrade is stuck on something.  I'm assuming it's the authentication bridge to the forum.  It'll take a little bit of investigation.

I've been looking at existing themes for something easy enough to plop in the random headers, but that may take me a while to get to.  I want the headers back as much as any of us :)

Errata:  The Dice Roller seems to be the same.  The YouTube plugin has more options, except that all our existing YouTube BBCode has a different parameter that *isn't* compatible.  If you run in to a [yt=320,240] tag, if you just get rid of that parameter and leave it at [yt], it'll start working again.  No big deal.

I'm trying to configure the new anti-spam options, but there may be spam accounts that leak through.  I'll continue to be the gatekeeper.

Please post issues here!  Hopefully this will solve login problems and banish those error messages.

We got force-bumped up to PHP 5.5

It's going to take some work to unravel.  Not sure when I'll next have time, sorry. :(

Another PHP upgrade was forced on the site, and it's made everything messy with error messages.  I'm going to try to get it reverted, but according to the host, there'll be no choice after January 19th.

*sigh*  Looks like I have more work to do.

(fingers crossed hoping this actually posts...)

Feeling alright despite my warranty having expired a little while back...

Hopefully I can spend a little time upgrading the forum soon.  Work's been a bit of a grind, though.

It's an interesting angle that I didn't consider, and the logs just might back you up there (frequency doesn't seem that often, though), but looking at "recent" posts on the SMF forum, it looks like the primary root is that this version of SMF isn't compatible with the newer PHP.

And coincidentally, I've been given notice by the host that we're going to be forced in to an even newer version of PHP (which was even worse) in mid-January.

And many of the fixes you mention are handled better in the newer version of SMF.  Supposedly more chat options too...

So it's pretty obvious that my procrastination has to come to an end and we have to get this beast upgraded.  Summer's waning (a few very very nice days left though :) ) and I suppose I'm out of excuses.  *sigh*

I found out my highschool girlfriend died back in April.

That was 30 years ago (this month) that we split, so yeah I was over that long ago, but there's still something that digs at me about something like that.  She was a part of what made me who I am, and it's gonna bug me that she's no longer a part of the constant of the background of the universe anymore.  At least for a little while...

...and I don't have anything planned.  Well, involving the Internet, anyhow. ;)

That said, there's also only one year left on my last prepay for this domain.

I haven't had a lot of luck being able to post or PM these past few months (seemingly lucky today), but I have enjoyed lurking some of the resurrected Noir discussions and such. :)

Anyway, there's a year left to decide what to do.  So I'll try to at least remember to lift a glass for a toast (I'll be lifting a glass plenty on the night before Independence Day, I'm sure... but still!)

My student film was embedded (and my name mentioned) in an article on the French site L'Obs about the update to the comic my film was based on:
Article in French (Google Translate works pretty well on it)

I only noticed because I got a sudden spike in views the other day.
