Favourite character dynamic

Madlax differs from its sister-shows in that it has a fairly large central cast, but there are still definite unique dynamics between different pairs of characters. I was wondering which of these dynamics other fans find the most appealing, whether they see them as romantic/adversarial/familial/platonic/whatever, and why.

My answers: Madlax and Vanessa, Margaret and Elenore, Colonel Burton and Friday Monday. Romantic, quasiromantic filial love, enmity. Because Madlax and Vanessa are awesome and cute together and a Prince and Princess (plus they gave us That Hug). Because Elenore and Margaret's relationship gave us one of the most beautiful,
Spoiler: show
heartbreaking
scenes ever animated. Because Friday Monday's behaviour around Colonel Burton is magnificent bastardry at its finest.

Spoiler: show
I actually subscribe to the Margaret's-Wish-Resurrected-Elenore-Vanessa-and-Carrossea theory mainly because I became so invested in Madlax/Vanessa and Margaret-and-Elenore while watching the show that if I thought otherwise it would lose much of its rewatch value and make me miserable. And besides, why wouldn't Margaret do that?

M&V and E&V. Vanessa's in my top five all-time favorite character list due to her confidence, strength, quick-thinking, courage and pursuit of the truth, so I love her dearly. Which is why the whole "pulling the gun on her" thing clinched the show for me; half jumped out of my seat with a "Holy crap she's gonna die" moment.

From there, over the course of about 10 episodes, Madlax's relationship with her slides from "naieve pest who's paying me money and attracts bullets" to dear, dear friend, as both teaches the other to survive in their respective worlds (physical struggle for Madlax, emotional for Vanessa).

As for E&V, they've got this snarky relationship that's adorable. How much you want to bet they're both sharing a coffee whenever they're not on camera, rolling their eyes over the latest bit of silliness Margaret has gotten herself into (see: the Miss Margaret, Please Don't thread).
Three a.m. is a wonderful time / when the terrors of sound come alive.

I know not whence that came.

I agree with you wholeheartly on that. ;)

There's a possible Elenore/Vanessa pairing. I wish they explored that a little more.

Well, I'm heavily into Madlax/Vanessa and Elenore/Margaret Filial Love, but...Limelda and...oh, heck, why don't we just have a big Madlax/Vanessa/Elenore/Margaret/Limelda shoujoaifest?

I agree with Section_8 in that Vanessa is probably my third favourite fictional character of all time, after Harriet Vane from the Lord Peter Wimsey books and Romana from Doctor Who--both of whom, like Vanessa, are confident, intelligent, strong, and idealistic. This also reflects my taste in real-life women.

Vanessa seems to be far and away the most beloved character to come out of Madlax. That makes me very happy.

Actually, Vanessa seems to be the second most popular, after Madlax. So I guess that makes Vanessa/Madlax (my personal favorite, too) the all-time champion among the series' couples. %)

On a side note, Vanessa/Limelda is my favorite crack pairing. I even wrote a fanfic about it. %)

Generally, read that thread above for more possible pairings, especially this post.

 I voted for the "Margaret and Elenore" option. They're both my favorite characters, and I love to see them individually or interacting with other characters aswell, but their character dynamic is definitely my favorite one in the series.

 For more than two characters I like Margaret/Elenore/Vanessa and Margaret/Elenore/Carossea. And my least favorite character dynamic is probably Madlax/Limelda, even though I know it plays a very important part in the series... ^^;

I honestly have a hard time deciding whether the world needs moar Margaret and Elenore, or moar Madlax and Vanessa. Let's Prove Friday Monday Utterly Wrong Albeit In The Most
Spoiler: show
Tragic
Way Possible ties with That HUG for my favourite scene in any BeeTrain (both are only slightly ahead of 'let's look for the light' and 'do we look like husband and wife?'). Which is why I made the maximum number of options three.

The Margaret-Elenore-Carrossea interplay is interesting, but other than the part where
Spoiler: show
he realises that he doesn't exist,
Carrossea just never appealed to me that much.
Vanessa seems to be far and away the most beloved character to come out of Madlax. That makes me very happy.

 I definitely prefer the "Let's Prove Friday Monday Utterly Wrong Albeit In The Most
Spoiler: show
Tragic
Way Possible".

 Though I don't dislike "That HUG" either, I even did that banner up there... ^^;

 Well, I did mentioned somewhere before that maybe Carossea and Limelda should have just stayed together for the good of humanity! :D

 And just noticed the "Margaret and Elenore" option is winning the poll right now!

 YAY for that, as it seems rather unusal! ^^

Oh, LPFMUWAITMTWP is unquestionably a better and more significant scene, but That HUG was beautifully animated and (IMO) struck the perfect balance between Cute and Hot (BeeTrain in general is good at that).

Oh, Carrossea and Limelda unquestionably should have left Margaret/Elenore and Madlax/Vanessa the Hell alone. The world in general would indeed have been far better off.

I like your sense of humour, Tahaan :) And 23 posts already! You're going to overtake me as the resident spammer :D

Anyway, Margy and Eleanore got my first pick, and I stuck one in for LP (strange, I know, but Laetitia never fails to get my heart beating faster. Red hair and profound commentary. Mmmm. I wish I were Poupee. I really do) and for Madlax/Limelda, which I'm surprised hasn't gotten more votes. I never was one for sex and death (as y'all know by now, I'm sure) but I find it very easy to empathize with Limelda's Truth vs Duty vs Self dilemma (trichotomy?) and the "kind killer" is a perfect foil for her. I really don't think Madlax would be the same person without Limelda - it forces Madlax into more contemplation than she might otherwise experience, and vice versa (Madlax pro Limelda pro Madlax).

Heh. How old is Laetitia supposed to be, again?

well if you look at her from physical standpoint she appears to be at least 5 or 6 but mentally she could be easily 4 times that.

No, just no. Such things should better never leave the crazy minds of their creators, lest they want to break more minds. That said, the fanfic I mention has never left my harddrive. :)

I was joking too :D But seriously folks, how old *is* Laetitia supposed to be?

Quite obviously, seven.
Spoiler: show
Margaret is 17 (Vanessa mentions it when asking about Madlax's age), and the split happened 10 years ago. Since Laetitia is little more than a snapshot of Margaret's memory up until then, it is logical that she didn't age ever since.

And just noticed the "Margaret and Elenore" option is winning the poll right now!

 YAY for that, as it seems rather unusal! ^^

It's because of all the Elenore fangirls and fanboys running around at the moment. %)

 Hey, that was actually 12 years ago, not 10! And curiously, I found this screenshot the other day where it seems they say Margaret is actually 19, her birthday being stated as July 14 (or 16?) 1992. That fits with the 1999 date 12 years ago, and Madlax's timeline taking place in 2011. I guess I should have brought this up sooner huh? ^^;

 Incidentely, Laetitia would quite obviously be around 7 years old too, if you consider she's supposed to be Margaret's age at the time of the split! :)

It's because of all the Elenore fangirls and fanboys running around at the moment. %)

 You almost make it sound like a bad thing! :D What surprises me the most is to have Margaret included in any of the winning poll options, considering she's not that popular (she even has an official hate thread)!
